At the corner of De La Guerra and Milpas, right in front of J's Tire, sits The Shop. A walk-up, patio-lounging, diamond in the
taquería rough. Don't get me wrong, I love Mexican food and Milpas has some of the best, but it's nice to have something different on the one day I am not
eating sopes de pollo.
The Shop opened their doors in December of 2012 serving breakfast and lunch from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. I heard a lot of buzz
about this place from friends and decided to check it out one Sunday afternoon. There were a lot of interesting items on the menu but once I saw the "Jean
Claude Van Hamme," I knew I must consume it. Ciabatta bread, honey, arugula, brie, and of course ham. I didn't even have to do the splits on two semi-trucks
to eat it. Everything tasted fresh and delicious, no complaints here.
1/3 lb. seasoned patty, green goddess, spicy cheddar, lettuce, bread & butter pickles on Shop Bun
I didn't taste the burger but my date said it was well seasoned and perfectly cooked.
Oh, and they served beer! We ordered a Figueroa Mountain Danish Red and a Coconut Porter. I'm a big Fig
Mountain fan and their red's are really good, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Coconut Porter. It's
worth a taste for the dark brew lovers.
Our Ed Rating scale is a simple 0-3, with 3 being great and 0 being a "don't even stop to pee here" kind of
place. Here's why I gave The Shop 2.5 Eds instead of the full 3. While the food is delicious, it is a bit pricey
for the walk-up, serve yourself kind of style they have going on. However, I did enjoy the casual vibe and
the food really is good. Give it a try and let me know your thoughts.
