I took a spin up to the top of Figueroa Mountain in search of wildflowers via Happy Canyon rd. The total sum of poppies seen on top of Fig Mt.? Zero. There were some nice flowers down at the bottom of the canyon and a few on top in the meadows west of the Fig Mt. station, but sadly, this year really stinks for wildflowers. I did however have the pleasure of seeing a mob (yes, I looked it up, and their young are called 'keets') of Guinea Fowl running along the rural Happy Canyon rd. There were about a dozen, some this color and some pure white. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I find these birds beautiful....well, from the neck down at least! I know nothing about these birds, are they found in our neck of the woods?...or, are they escapees from one of the neighboring ranches? Either way, very cool sight!
