updated: Mar 28, 2014, 11:30 AM

By the Dedicated Staff of edhat.com

According to The Independent, Raymond Morua has pled not guilty to second degree murder, DUI vehicular manslaughter, and hit-and-run charges Friday morning. He will be back in court on April 15th. Morua, the former aide to Lois Capps, is accused of driving drunk after leaving a holiday party allegedly hosted by The Independent and fatally hitting 27-year-old Mallory Rae Dies. Morua reportedly fled the scene and crashed his vehicle.

The Independent reports that Morua's defense attorney Darryl Genis and prosecutors are close to striking a plea deal. Genis also stated that Morua "wants to take responsibility" for the death of Dies.
