On 3/26/2014, at approximately 2359 hours, CHP dispatch received a 911 call of a traffic collision involving an overturned vehicle. The collision occurred on Gibraltar Rd. north of El Cielito Rd. The collision occurred when Mr. Reyes (age 31, of Santa Barbara, Ca) was driving a 1991 Toyota 4Runner northbound on Gibraltar Rd. Mr. Reyes turned the Toyota to the right where it left the east roadway edge and collided with a bush. The Toyota continued through the bush and down a steep embankment into a canyon, rolling over several times in the process, before coming to a rest. Gibraltar Rd. was closed for approximately two hours while Santa Barbara Search and Rescue personnel extricated Mr. Reyes from the Toyota. Mr. Reyes was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage hospital. Alcohol was determined to be a factor in the collision and Mr. Reyes was subsequently arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol.
