updated: Mar 26, 2014, 1:03 PM

Does anyone know of a local aquarium fish store that has Cherry Shrimp for sale?

No, but they sound delicious.

Ever read up in how sea/freshwater creatures are obtained for aquariums? Young children "harvest" the animals, in the wild. Paid next to nothing, and who can calculate the negative effects this pillaging has on delicate marine/creek ecosystems.

Then the hapless creatures are shipped, with survival rate expected to be around 20-30%. All so someone can have a live underwater display set up in his/her living room. And the shrimp or clams or fishes usually don't fare well, as maintaining a healthy tank, freshwater or marine, is a delicate and often costly and time-intensive hobby.

Why not just post a few colorful watercolor paintings and leave the animals in their natural habitat?

065P - Shall we just remove all aquariums? Let's start with Monterrey and the Long Beach aquariums, yes? NO.

Most aquarists knowingly enter this hobby realizing the devotion one must give in order to maintain a healthy, clean aquarium. Sure, there are many who are given aquariums as gifts and have no idea what they're doing. But, don't trash the entire hobby just because some people let their tanks go to pieces.

And what better way for young children to enjoy and learn about marine or freshwater ecology and biology than to have an aquarium at home. Teach them to care for their animals and to understand their needs.

The number of animals that a family with kids goes through in the, say, 15 years they are growing up is mind-boggling -- snakes, hamsters, pet rats, fish, birds -- and multiply it by millions of families plus the lower-animal food chain that feeds the upper-animal food chain. All die, very few because of natural life-span. O shut it down.

Atlantis aquarium on upper state has them every so often. You can ask them to order shrimp at any time. That being said, there are a lot of aquarium blogs that will be of better service. Plantedtank.net and scape.org(i think its scape.org, so cal aquarium blog) You will find better shrimp on the blogs for less money than at the store.
