Baby-Friendly Restaurant
updated: Mar 24, 2014, 10:05 AM

A friend is driving through town and stopping for lunch with her one-month old baby. What is a good restaurant to take them that's baby friendly and not too crowded?

I see a lot of babies at Jeannine's in La Arcada.

IHop, Denny's, or any place that has outside seating.

At a month old, you can take them anywhere as they will probably sleep the entire time! Feed and diaper and then go to lunch. It's when they are a bit older that it becomes difficult to dine without anxiety. That's what babysitters are for. :) There is nothing worse than having to hear a crying baby whilst dining. I'm the mother of two and never allowed my children to disrupt the dining experience of others. It's rude no matter the restaurant.

I'm no parent but I would imagine that a baby would be less stressed/excited by outside stimuli if the busy time, the lunch rush, is avoided. Also with fewer people around to be offended by baby being fed (naturally) which also tends to quiets the baby as it connects with mother.

It really depends on the baby. In my experience, most restaurants that have outdoor seating work best because then if your baby cries you can easily walk away from the table to an area where the crying will not bother other diners. At one month old we took the baby to Mesa cafe, Hollister brew co, carlito's, and a few other places in camino real since there's a lot of outdoor seating! But babies at 1 month usually sleep!!! So there's a good chance the baby is going to be sleeping during the whole lunch.

Great idea for Padaro. Crying babies can ruin a pleasant meal for the non-parents because humans react to a distressed infant. The squall is engineered to get attention. If your baby is a quiet one that doesn't scream, then no problem most places, though outdoors is great. Try to create some distance instead of plunking down right by people having a quiet chat. If you go to a restaurant, and if you're one of those parents with a double-wide combat-ready titanium maxi-stroller with battering ram, please don't park it where others have to clamber around that monstrosity in addition to enduring the crying.

Daily Grind on Mission for lunch, Scott's always been good with the kids, and now he has a baby boy.

You can take a one month old anywhere. They sleep. Padaro is excellent. Stella as well.

Padaro! They have a sandbox and lots of room to play! And likely lots of other kids to play with.

We went to the Brewhouse for one of our first dinners out with our daughter when she was a newborn. It's so loud in there that no one can hear if the baby cries anyway! I also love Padaro. :)
