By Bonnie Carroll

Puerto Vallarta Chef Thierry Blouet, owner of Café des Artistes, shared a ‘thumbs up' with Santa Barbara travel/lifestyle writer Bonnie Carroll to show their approval for the 3rd Annual Wine & Food Festival Cancun- Riviera Maya gala honoring Chef Daniel Boulud at SECRETS The Vine Cancun. Six star chefs prepared a French menu that was pared with wines selected by award-winning sommeliers Veronique Rivest, Elyse Lambert and Juan Carlos Flores, as well as Taittinger Champagne provided by attending sponsor Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger. Festival CEO and founder David Amar presented Boulud with the prestigious award.

Chef Thierry Blouet is the brother of Santa Barbara resident Geraldine Blouet, and he is the co-founder of a 10 day Gourmet International Festival held in our Sister City Puerto Vallarta every year in mid- November. Blouet was one of a large group of French and French trained chefs who attended the Cancun festival to see legendary Chef Daniel Boulud honored for his contribution in the world of gastronomy.

Chef Ricardo Zarate, owner of Blue Tavern Restaurant in the Santa Barbara Indigo Hotel on State Street, was one of the star chefs of the Americas & Europe who participated in the Wine & Food Festival Cooking Challenge. Zarate is considered an ambassador of Peruvian cuisine and respected for his inventive recipes that highlight the many multicultural influences of Peruvian dishes, including Japanese cuisine.

Also honored was Chef Guillermo Gonzalez Beristain, who studied in America and Europe, and has worked in a bevy of prestigious French restaurants. He currently owns a group of fine restaurants in Mexico, and in 2013 his Bocanegra craftsman beer was released.

The 3rd Annual gourmet celebration in paradise was supported by Cancun & Riviera Maya tourism Boards, Visit Mexico, Food & Wine and Travel & Leisure Magazines, along with numerous other luxury sponsors. For details on the 2015 event visit: www.crmfest.com. Ole'
