updated: Mar 19, 2014, 8:12 PM

Does anyone know of any SB car wash(s) that use some sort of reclaimed water? Would be great for us to support those if we must wash our cars!!

Prestige Hand Car Wash on Milpas recycles their water.

I believe all the local car washes recycle their water.

Educated Car Wash recycles their water. State at Hitchcock behind Jack in the Box. They do a decent job too.
(PS - A guy at Prestige once backed my truck into a pole causing $2000.00 worth of damage. He pleaded with me to not file a claim with the company, saying that Prestige would fire him. He wanted to pay me personally, and I really didn't want to go through all of that. So I filed a claim and when I sold the truck, the carfax showed my truck had been in an accident. This is why I go to Educated).

Daly's car wash recycles water. Educated Car Wash recycled some of my money that they did not earn. I bought gas, and was charged more than the posted price which I didn't notice until I got home. Disinterested response from them. Don't know if their system is now updated and that doesn't happen anymore.

wash your car with rinse free car wash. You only use one bucket of water.

I had a problem with Educated car wash too. They blew a piece off my roof rack. When I noticed before I left, they said call them in the morning after they cleaned up drains. That went on for an entire week. No help - just call every day. I replaced the part and never went back.

I'd tell you the best car wash in town but if I did, there'd be a line.

I don't want lines. I don't want to wait behind you. I don't want it to be popular.

So no, I don't know of any.

I believe here in Santa Ynez Valley the two car washes in Buellton recycle.

Educated broke my antenna even after they insisted I don't remove it. They notified me and sent me to the stereo shop down the street and paid for the pairs. At the shop they said I was like the 3 or 4th person with a broken antenna from educated in the last couple months. I wasn't too upset, but looking back, I think they should have at least comp'd my car wash. They definitely had the attitude like it was no big deal and happens all the time.

I continue to go to educated, they do a good job for a good price, but just remember to take off my antenna each time now.

I found a dent on my truck on the left rear corner after I left the Educated Car Wash - it was a new truck at the time so I knew my dents. I'd already left the wash so I couldn't resolve it. They have a hard left turn in their flow from the pumps to the wash tunnel where the cars have to merge. At this point, the employees are driving your car and customers have usually already walked up front to pay. It's understandable that it could happen.
On another occasion, I witnessed a man with an SUV talking with the manager about a dent he found in the same spot on his car.
I don't go there anymore but if you do, watch your car proceed all the way through!

Does anyone know of any SB car washes that dont hire illegal immigrants? I do not wish to support businesses that undermine our economy, our community and the law.

Are there any such places in SB or am I stuck doing it myself?

@398 totally understand where you are coming from. I try to use the self-serve (wand) carwashes at Turnpike Shell and in oldtown Goleta on Magnolia. Its do it yourself but still a lot easier than doing it at home plus I assume they recycle the water.

The trick with these washes is do not use every step shown on the rotary knob. Prewash -- Soap-Rinse-Wax is good enough. Skip the foam brush.

Wash & Go at State & Ontare is very careful to not rip off my antennae on my '67 VW Bug while hand washing it with soft cloths. You drive it thru the rinse yourself so you don't have to worry about them denting your car. They have also detailed it a couple of times and it looked beautiful.

Educated kept stealing the change we used to keep in the car for parking meters. Management couldn't care less about our complaints. Now we go to a detailer. Costs a lot for the car looks great!

Educated is a poverty car wash, much better to use one of the mobile services. Very convenient as your car is cleaned while you are working away, don't have to take any time out of your day.

Am glad to see my experiences confirmed re: Educated Car Wash. Wonder if this will help them step up to doing a better job and being honest.

Yes, 409, Educated sucked the change out of my money keeper in the car more than once. The management denies that their employees are doing that, but go watch what they do with those huge vacuum holds after hours. No need to leave tips, they hand themselves their own.......

I think all the car washes have to recycle. I know during the 1990-91 drought we couldn't wash our own cars, but were supposed to take them to car washes for recycling purposes.
I did have problems with Educated. I asked them to fill my car up for a trip. When I got on the road, I had less than a quarter tank. I was charged for the fill up. I took a picture of my gas gauge and called Educated. They apologized for the screw up and credited my card. I don't know who got my gas. They aren't great at getting off the bugs. I always walk along the car and make them clean off the bugs and bird poop.

398 - know any 'legal' who would do such a demanding job for such little $$$ so you can sit in the shade, sip a cool drink while watching these folks working so hard??? If you do I'm sure any carwash service in town would be happy to hire them....

I use the one behind Zizzo's or the one in old town. I simply refuse to let someone wash my car for me - I can do that and then I can just be irritated at myself when I vacuum up my change or miss a spot. Both places are cool and easy. I've never even wanted to wash my car at my house - ewww.

Use no rinse wash.

Easy, quick, uses very little water, looks like a million, no chance of rollers at wash tunnel scratching or other mystery damage.

Recommended by well known detailer. . .
