In 1958 I had just gotten a new pair of "penny" loafers from the local Thom McAn shoe store.

While walking home I found 3 pennies on the ground - enough for one penny in each of the loafers and an extra one for a piece of penny candy at my favorite soda fountain/candy store.

I've heard so many horror stories about rentals here in town but I've always lucked out with finding a great place with good landlords. Hope the luck continues!

Bought 2 last minute concert tickets, the seller had 4 total and gave me the extra 2 because he knew he wouldn't sell them. Got to bring friends with us and had a great time!

Guy wouldn't hire me for my dream-job because I did not [yet] live in the area. Moved to Santa Barbara -- taking a not-first-choice-job-opening nearby: Guy spotted me walking -- and offered me that great "career opportunity" I wanted all along. (Worked there for 30 years.)

Last year I had the bad luck of having a couple help clean some areas in my casas here in Baja. By bad luck, I have to say, they, though they looked OK, they were tweakers, and Ii started noticing things missing or move. WELL, my Shoemaker Leprechaun figurine disappeared from its place. It was just gone. Well, come St Pat's Day, I mentioned my missing leprechaun to a friend in the village. " Wow," she said, " there is a leprechaun perched on a post by the lagoon" Sure enough, there was my little old man, and now he is back on his perch in my house. It was a nice St Pat's gift to me.

I was lucky enough to be born in Santa Barbara, and lucky to grow up during what I consider to be the best period of time to grow up here.

I, too, was blessed. My children were fifth-generation family members to live in beautiful Santa Barbara and there are plenty of Irish people on our family tree.

A few years ago I fell and messed up my face. Could have lost my teeth or eyes by just a inch either way. Then, recently my dog got out and ran into heavy traffic as I watched helplessly as somehow a blonde haired woman's car missed her. The driver never saw her so no evasive action was taken.

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

Years ago on vacation in Lake Tahoe, while looking at boats with my family I noticed some litter blowing around on the dock. I went to pick it up before it blew into the water and "lucky" for me the litter turned out to be $200 all crumpled up like trash. There was no one around and no office to inquire about the loss so I kept the money!

I worked in Manhattan, downtown, across the park from City Hall, about two blocks from my train stop, WTC 5. In the summer of 2001 my then girlfriend, now wife and mother of our three healthy kids (that's lucky!) convinced me to quit my job and move with her to SB. We drove it in two cars and arrived in the middle of August. I was here about three weeks when the towers came down. I have always felt lucky about making that decision. I knew 36 victims. I'm still extremely angry about that day, but have the wherewithal to feel blessed about how it all turned out.

I struggle to make ends meet here in this expensive town where I have lived for 35 years, I was born and raised in CA and every day I thank my stars that I'm a Native (4 generations!). I also am grateful to be so lucky to live by the ocean and to have use of all my limbs and my mobility. I am grateful for the luck of my good health and the wealth of friends that I have. Money isn't everything, but it's hard to be poor in the midst of so much wealth. Gotta keep a good perspective. Terrific topic!

I won tickets to Speaking of Stories on edhat and attended an incredible event last night...March 17/St. Patrick's Day.
