The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department has released a Community Health Status Report to update our community on the overall status of our health. This report is issued every 2 - 3 years.
The report for 2014 centers around the 3-4-50 concept:
3 Behaviors (Poor Diet, Physical Inactivity, Tobacco Use)
4 Diseases (Vascular Disease, Cancer, Lung Disease, Diabetes)
Over 50% of Deaths
We have focused our data collection and analysis on three behaviors and four chronic diseases. The quality and longevity of life of our residents is greatly influenced by these key factors. Collecting and analyzing these trends gives us a better understanding of where we are and how we, as a community and as the Public health Department, should direct our attention.
Our health matters. It impacts each and every person who lives, works, studies and plays in the county-regardless of age, gender, race, income or sexual orientation. Collecting and analyzing trends gives us a better understanding of where we are and how we, as a community and as the Public Health Department, should focus our attention and resources. We look forward to using this data to protect the public's health and improve the health of the entire community.
