Ojai Mardi Gras Photos!
updated: Mar 10, 2014, 8:27 AM

By Robert Bernstein

Ojai does Mardi Gras in a big way, thanks to Shane and Kelli Butler! They organized an entire weekend of Mardi Gras art, music, dancing, food and more at the Ojai Art Center.

Here are my photos from Sunday's festivities. I had to miss the Saturday night festivities in order to catch the Aerials Festival here at the Lobero.

This was the 24th annual Ojai Mardi Gras. The theme this year was "The Wizards of Odd". In my photos you will see Dorothy, Toto, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. Plus plenty of related art!

Event organizer Shane Butler is a veteran of nine Burning Man experiences which brought some extra connections. Including the Burning Man Fish/Ship art car "Big KaTuna" re-created as "Salmon-Ella". Its creator Christopher Buhler generously took us all for a ride around downtown Ojai as part of the festivities!

The Sunday festivities also included Cajun music and dancing, including lessons for those of us new to this style of dance.

If you missed it... Mark your calendar for Ojai Mardi Gras next year!

Best wishes, Robert
