Aerial Arts Festival Fills Lobero!
updated: Mar 06, 2014, 3:18 PM

By Robert Bernstein

The Floor to Air Aerial Arts Festival filled the Lobero Theater on Saturday March 1!

Director Ninette Paloma is known to many of us as a star aerial dancer in Pali's Solstice grand finale ensembles. But Ninette has created much more through her Santa Barbara Centre for Aerial Arts.

The Lobero event was the culmination of years of training by many local and international aerial dance artists. And what an art form it is!

The event began with simultaneous drops from two silks into the Lobero audience. After that, it was two hours of non-stop creative energy, beauty and emotion, with two brief intermission pauses for reflection.

One of the star performers was Fred Deb who came all the way from northwest France to do a very unique solo act in a very unique costume that she invented. She is also one of the creators of the entire field of silk aerial performance.

And of course Ninette and her many students performed as well!

Here are my photos!
