Coffee Filters
updated: Mar 02, 2014, 10:01 AM

As an edhat reader, I'd like to ask the edhat community if anyone knows where to find #1 coffee filters locally? Albertsons used to carry them, but phased them out a couple years ago and I haven't been able to find them anywhere else, aside from ordering them online. Thanks!

You could check Smart & Final. They have a wide selection of kitchen, restaurant products.

Try a Gold Tone filter, no paper to waste but maybe a little water to rinse it out?

I used to buy them at Scolari's back when they were in business, but have not found them anywhere else. I had checked Smart & Final, but they didn't carry them, too small.

I am curious as to the other recommendations here as well.

Vices & Spices for the individual cup gold filter instead (if you're using it that way).

You can buy them in bulk from Amazon.

To me, Amazon IS local. I go to my computer (in my house)...I order the aforementioned item (from my computer in my house)...the product is delivered to my door (very local). :)

Amazon rocks! ...and sometimes it even comes from someplace locally even though Amazon is where you place the order.

Thanks for the responses. Last time I did order them from Amazon, but I didn't reorder soon enough (and don't have prime), so I was hoping to find some nearby.

Take a paper towel and make a cone out of it. Works fine. You don't even have to trim off the excess.

Home Improvement on Gutierrez. I've seen them in Ralphs, also.

It has been my experience that if I ask my local Albertson's (Carpinteria, if you care) to get a product for me, they do!

Next time you're there, ask the store manager about it, or if you see someone stocking the shelves in that aisle, ask who does the ordering for it because you'd like something.

I'm sure they'll help you out.

if #1 fits the small Melitta cone (single cup size) Trader Joe's has always carried them.

Brick & Mortar retailers just have to prune down to those items that sell quickly, these days.

Ralph's USED to carry them but doesn't. Recently began using the fluted non bleach basket (makes "12 cups) size, don't trim a thing, and found they work better than No 1s. They never allow the grounds to get past the filter, so the brewer doesn't ever get clogged. Best of all the coffee tastes better than before. (They're also pretty inexpensive :)
