Mute Swans at Lake Los Carneros
updated: Feb 25, 2014, 9:45 AM

By Denise Dewire

Stopped off at Lake Los Carneros for a little walk and to see what birds were present. Love the pair of Mute Swans that reside at the Lake. First spotted on the west side where the water is much shallower. Then when I was over by the fenced area, they both took off flying like something had spooked them. They flew north together over the water and then one headed towards me flying very close and then headed south. About ten minutes later he returned making all sorts of noise to make sure everyone knew he was back. They are so graceful to watch.

I love the contrast of colors in the different parts of the water. And you realize how large these guys are in the one image where the gull is present.

Love that little area of nature. Always something to see. As I was leaving, there were five Red-tailed Hawks flying high above me. I've never seen that many together. Must have had some great thermals and enjoying the view!
