Poor Richard's Pub
updated: Feb 24, 2014, 8:28 AM

By Tony Barr

I was a builder of the Poor Richards pub (now the Rusty's on Carrillo/Bath) and I hand adzed the beams and laid all the cobble stones outside and then worked there from opening day for 4 months. It was packed every night and served roast meals (English) and truffle for desert. The building was built from scratch in 1970 but strictly to plans of a 15th Century English pub. The plans were sourced from a museum in UK. Materials were sourced from all over USA and the oak came from Pennsylvania and was hand adzed on site !!! Not one nail was used. Female/waitress staff were dressed as wenches and men in 15th century English costumes. Those were the days. I am 65yrs now !!!! Takes me back.
