Scanner Reports 2-21-14

By Roger the Scanner Guy

Thank Dog it's FRYday! Another beautiful Day in Santa Barbara. One might think with all the beauty that surrounds our lovely town everyone would be happy. There is so much to do here; the ocean, the mountains, hiking, biking, swimming, boating, fishing, the list goes on. Even if one is poor and cannot afford many activities these are pretty much free. There are many other things to do also with little or no cost including educational activities, volunteering, listening to music. Not all concerts cost an arm and a leg around here. If you're dirt poor and need food there are many organizations here willing to help you; Catholic Charities, Food Bank, the Salvation Army, the Rescue Mission, just to mention a couple.

If you're depressed and need to talk there are places to go to for that also. If you're in dire straits go to a 12-step group. Chances are there is one covering whatever is ailing you, if you're feeling depressed and life isn't worth living but you're not suicidal. Like me I'm Catholic and if I commit suicide I'm going to burn in HELL so more than likely I will never kill myself. If you're like me 12-Step groups are wonderful. Where else can you go and eat cookies, have a couple cups of coffee, get an emotional lift and drop a buck in the basket? That's an option you don't have to put anything in there at all. There is so much to do and help to attain if you need it. I'm mentioning this because yesterday, I heard a suicide on the Westside of Santa Barbara. Other than it being in a home I won't say where because it was not a public suicide.

In Lompoc in Jalama Park a suicidal subject was found dead; probable cause Suicide. There were at least 3 attempts in the County including a heroin overdose, and an overdose in parking lot 10, although the parking lot 10 might have been an Alcohol OD. On Tuesday there was a suicide at PHF the county Psyche ward, I heard an 1144 in the county it might not have been a suicide but sounded as if it was. I hear a lot of suicidal people call in Santa Barbara County many are missing, some have vehicles if they are a danger to themselves, and then they are dangerous to others. I'm hearing a lot of suicides lately and that is why I wrote this, I'm concerned. I think some people think I like hearing all the bad things that happen in Santa Barbara but I don't. Wherever I hear a medical emergency, or a suicidal subject I break out my rosary and pray. I'm sorry if that offends people I'm not perfect just a regular hypocrite like everyone else. Don't tell Dog but I don't like praying all the time either. We may not all agree on things here but we all have something to contribute in this life so don't give up stick around and suffer with the rest of us.

Will that's enough outta me for now this computer has been acting up a wee bit and I don't want anything to disappear. Made a big pot of lentil for the neighbors and me. With chili's, tomatoes, organic onions, and kale, Bacon and Rice on the side, chips and cheese. I'm no gourmet chef but I like to cook for my friends. If you're feeling scrappy find someone to talk to don't do yourself in. Take it from someone who don't have much is crazier than a loon. It ain't all that but it ain't half bad either. Have a great weekend and Dog willing we will see you on Monday. Later, Roger
