Have any subscribers that like to go fishing noticed a difference in results from Lake Cachuma because of its low water level?

The news said that everyone was catching their limit because the fish were confined to smaller and smaller volumes.

Why are we still letting people fish in that lake? Does no one see anything wrong with that

What in the world is wrong with fishing? They stock it with 1000's of trout (really just largemouth bass food, but still)every few weeks!

Please tell me they closed the lake to boats...

sooner or later those fish are going to start dying off from not enough water.. I would think they would better serve a purpose on someone's plate than rotting dead on the shore.

We are drinking dirty fish water?

We are drinking dirty fish poop and bird poop and deer poop and bear poop water. That's why we have to keep humans out of the lake because there is no more room for any more poop.

The SB treatment plant makes it all go away, not that anyone actually drinks tap water anymore.

I drink tap water. It's much tastier these days with the new ozone treatment system :). So fishermen and fisherwomen catch and eat fish. Cool, better than watching TV. Now if we could get rid of the racist policy of keeping the people from swimming in the lake. That would be progress baby! Yes it is a Racist policy, one that needs to change.

It is a disease-ist policy.

If the water is disinfected, it's disinfected - there are no pathogens that are uniquely immune to chlorine or ozone than what's carried by other animals.

The prohibition on swimming is and always as been silly - people who live near the great lakes actually drink the same water many times - the sewage effluent and freshwater uptake go into and out of the same lake.

I don't think tap water tastes all that great. I was up there recently and saw what I think was part of the old village or town that was once where the lake is now. Never have seen it this low.

"Although chlorine is the primary disinfectant of choice in water treatment practice, many waterborne pathogens are resistant to chlorine and are often found in finished water. These chlorine-resistant pathogens include viruses, parasites and bacteria that can cause hepatitis, gastroenteritis, cryptosporidiosis and Legionnaires' disease. "

How many millions of people live on the shores of the great lakes? Have you any evidence that water treatment methods are unable to deal with water born pathogens in the Chicago or Detroit areas? If so, please share because it must be a very well kept secret.

If we have lake contamination from the living fish, how about the lake contamination from dead fish. I have seen several studies that showed municipal water has fewer pathogens than most bottled water. Also, the bottle drinkers feel free to scatter the empty bottles on trails and streets.

I must have been doing something wrong back in the day. I can't count how many times I went out on that lake and I never caught a single fish. :)

Agree with 229, always had terrible luck fishing on that lake. By the way, fish also have sex in that water.

232 - Yuk! Fish sex.

That's it!
I'm off the local tap water & going for the pure, bottled type.

Yuk!

There are over 10k peoples trace poop on every movie theatre chair. There are over 40k peoples "essence" on the remote control of any given hotel. Gravy is Blood. Welcome to reality. Your TV lied, we are not fresh as an Irish Spring.

Lake Michigan water has always been good and comes from the tap ice cold.. There might be little pieces of Jimmy Hoffa in there too but you can strain that..

The lake waters in much of Michigan are fed from underground springs filtered naturally through gravel and sand since the last "Ice Age" and are some of the best drinking waters from around the country. It is true that it is not as good in and around the biggest cities but in general the water there is better than here. Not because of pathogens but because our water is high in minerals like lime and calcium and carries a lot of "black "mold" spores and other compounds afecting the taste and it must be chlorinated to control mold and water born pathogens which also affects the taste.

I could never understand why swimming isn't allowed. After all, fishermen in boats don't always go to shore to pee or poop.

Back to the topic of fishing... I have been consistently fishing out there the last few months and have to say the trout fishing has been excellent. There have been lots of fish caught from shore but I think the best way is to rent a little boat and catch them on the troll right off the top using a Rapalla lure. If you have questions the guys at the boat rental are very helpful as to what the fish are biting on.
