Early Zumba
updated: Feb 16, 2014, 2:30 PM

I've heard really positive things about Zumba and I would love to try it, but need an early class that starts around 5AM or 530AM. Does anyone know of any classes like this in Goleta or Santa Barbara? Or are there any Zumba instructors out there reading this that would want to start a class at that time?

No but there's a 4AM class in La Conchita.

530AM would work too. Any Zumba instructors reading this want to start an early class in Goleta??

A good place to search is Zumba.com and click "find a class" and enter your search criteria. It might be difficult to find a private location willing to host at such an early hour, and the area gyms are unfortunately fairly unwilling to add more Zumba classes to their schedules.

The earliest classes I know of are an 8am Sat class and 9am Tues/Thurs class -- both are in the Zumba Gold format.

What is Zumba? An exercise class?

Seriously, 5am? I used to work out at 6:30am and I thought that was early enough in the morning. I think GRITZ may have the right idea for you. Work out instructors are not "Good Morning, America" anchors, getting up in the middle of the night to perform.

Yes 424. 530 AM, seriously. Some of us have work and families and other responsibilities that require our time and focus as well and make it difficult to do evening classes. No one is expecting, just asking. I like the idea that GRITZ suggested, but it would be fun to have a live class if there was enough interest, and someone were interested in offering a class at that time.

Evening classes are cool. I used to go to CC and take aerobics classes/self defense classes at night. I loved it. I rode my bike three miles, each way, to class, too. Nighttime is the right time for exercise. Although, I suppose if you're getting up at 4:30am to get to a Zumba class, it's dark enough out to be considered night.

Maybe in LA area you might find enough people to warrant starting a 0530 class, but probably not in SB. For now that is. If Zumba keeps gaining in popularity, who knows.

Perhaps you should be looking for a night class instead. The YMCA offers a couple of weekly classes (TUE/THU) that start between 7:00 - 7:15 pm.

There's the big Zumba class at the Carrillo Rec Center at 5:30 PM M-F. It's also held on Saturdays at 11:00 AM. I'd suggest that you just try one class at their time to see if you even like it. They offer little or no warm-up/stretching, so it's probably an injury waiting to happen at 5:30 AM. And there are plenty of other workouts that you can find at 5:30 AM, such as Spinning at the Santa Barbara Athletic Club.

Check out the SBCC Center for Lifelong Learning or Adult Ed classes. The YMCA also offers zumba and other classes.

I thought times like that were a myth.
