Government Appeals Ty Warner's Probation

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the U.S. government plans to appeal Ty Warner's tax evasion sentence of two years' probation. Warner pled guilty last year for failing to pay income taxes on millions of dollars he hid for years in Swiss bank accounts.

The U.S. government on Thursday filed a "notice of appeal" with the U.S. appeals court for the eventh circuit over the Jan. 15 sentencing order. The appeal is still awaiting authorization from the Department of Justice to proceed.

The Chicago Tribune reports a spokesman for Warner said that, in addition to probation, Warner will be performing community service."We're working out the details of Mr. Warner's community service with the designated schools. He's looking forward to beginning his work there and expects it to begin soon." Either side in a criminal case may appeal the sentence after a guilty verdict.Under federal sentencing guidelines, Warner faced up to 57 months in prison."
