Local Arcades

It's President's Day weekend and I've got three kids under 10 out of school and a big bag of quarters. Where is the best selection of coin-op arcade games in Santa Barbara?

It ain't the way it used to be. Zodo's has an "arcade room" but a lot of the games are really like junior slot machines - (games of chance) drop the token in, then see how many tickets poop out. The more tickets the better (??) the plastic cheapy china prize you get. Ventura has a Golf-N-Stuff with an arcade, and there is another arcade by the harbor. Good luck - I'd go to the beach or lizards mouth with them if, then late afternoon cold stone for ice cream! (that's what we're doing today)

I think there are more options in Ventura area. I can't think of anything here besides Zodo's as 837 pointed out.

Was recently at the movie theater out near Costco and had a flashback to the early 1990's.

I believe Rustys on Milpas is your only option.
Sure miss Deanos Pizza right about now.

Rusty's in Goleta (Storke and Hollister) has a few options- both arcade games and sit-in racing games.

Did Petrini's keep the games side when they took over the Luigi building?

Rusty's, Taffy's and the movie theater near Costco. We have a dire need for an arcade in this town, it's so sad! :(

Zodo's. Sure, the games are silly, but kids enjoy them.

Most of those mentioned here are not real arcades the. Golf n stuff is the only thing that comes close.

Zodo's is literally torture. Even my kids can't stand it there. Mindlessly dropping coins into slots to have tickets pop out two seconds later. No thanks.

"Literally" torture? You mean they're waterboarding people at Zodo's? Quick, call the ACLU!!!

Oh, you mean "figuratively" torture? Or virtually" torture? Then please say what you mean.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

I agree 945. I felt tortured just walking through the Zodo's arcade.

There's some laser tag place down in Simi Valley that my friend went to, today (V-Day) w/ his 12-yeqr-old son. The kid came home with stars in his eyes. Couldn't stop talking about how fun it was.

Lots of arcade games, too. My friend and his son both kept mentioning how clean and well-run the place was, with a young but exceptionally nice staff.

There's a county ordinance prohibiting any establishment from having more than 5 coin-op arcade machines. SB elected officials way of keeping kids from congregating & having fun, playing the "gang card".

495025: when did this happen? I remember plenty of arcades in IV back in the 80's and 90's...

Arcade type games have suffered over the years hence they are increasingly hard to find. First because electronic computerized games are so available including availability on smart phones many kids have. Secondly they are expensive to maintain and typically a qualified repairman may have to come from the San Fernando valley or someplace far to the south, which not only multiplies the expense, but also requires the inoperable machines to be out of service for a day or two (or longer).
