Wednesday Hump Day. Our City Parks serve a purpose for public use of recreation, picnics, parties, weddings, or just to hang out. Some of our City Parks have swimming pools for adults, kiddy pools for children, access to hiking, tennis courts, softball fields, soccer fields and other sports. There are ponds, places to hear music and eat, playgrounds for children, the list goes on. Many people hang out in the City Parks as Parks are property owned by the Government and paid for by the People or Taxpayers. People in charge of maintaining the City Parks our City Parks Department or City Council if I forgot anything I'm sure someone will remind me. For many years the Parks have been used by everyone Residents, Visitors, Homeless, Houseless, and the Parks have been maintained well and pretty much have been considered safe except once in a while like everywhere else in the World Crime does occur. The past couple years there has been problems in our City Parks where the general public does not feel safe so they are not visiting the parks as much, or not at all. On Monday the 10th of February I heard a call of an Assault with a knife at Oak Park near the Tennis Courts, I hear a couple calls a week near the Tennis Courts at Oak Park involving people having medical problems, and I also hear code 40, drunk calls there. I don't hear a lot of violence there. I usually hear calls involving violence usually isolated to fist fighting at Pershing Park, Vera Cruz Park, Chase Palm Park, DLG Plaza, Ortega Park, and Dwight Murphy Park, sometimes Mc Kenzie Park. Mc Kenzie Park I hear a lot of Drunk Calls. I know of some camping in the City Parks, as well as the Beach. Most campers try to stay out of sight, so maybe that keeps them out of Mind somewhat. Lately it seems as if there are more problems involving crime in our parks and I think some attention should be focused on these problems so maybe someone could come up with ideas and solutions and once again everyone could enjoy our City Parks. Feel free to share constructive thoughts ideas on this subject as well as anything else you would like to share.
