101 NB Accident

Shortly after 6am this morning, 911 dispatchers received reports of a vehicle accident involving a wrong- way driver on the Northbound 101 Freeway south of the Mission St. off ramp. Initial size-up reports from Engine 1 indicated that 4 vehicles were involved with 3 victims trapped. In addition to Engine 1, Santa Barbara City Fire Department responded Engine 5, Truck 1 and Battalion 713. Additionally, 2 AMR units responded as well as CHP. The drivers were the lone occupants of all 3 vehicles that sustained major damage. A fourth vehicle sustained minor damage, that driver was not injured. The 3 trapped victims were triaged and extricated in order of medical priority. All 3 were successfully removed and transported to Cottage ER within 30 minutes from the time of dispatch. Injuries were reported as moderate with northbound traffic reduced to 1 lane for approximately 90 minutes.
