Why was that DRONE hovering near Home Depot today (Wednesday) around noon? Inquiring spies want to know.

How come no pictures???

Because someone that owns the drone was out there flying it. What's wrong with that?

Coz that's what drones do... they hover about. The location is purely circumstantial.

Probably an NSA drone checking up on the poster. That's all.

I read this story about the same time I saw the last Bee Gee brother on CNN. I went to You Tube and since then I've been listening to the greatest hits of the BeeGee's. Do I care if there is a drone over Goleta?

Sorry Freeman, I would rather swing with the BeeGee's than consider your doomsday forecast.

It was probably that new iphone app, 'handyman/day laborer search cam'.

probably that (LOL) "man" who lives in the Blue Skies Mobile Home Park again...Maybe he got board looking at his neighbors....BTW probably most of the negative or snotty responses are either HIM or his "FRIENDS"

By "drone" you mean kid playing with remote control helicopter toy near Home Depot. That's less sinister.

Probably not the place to be flying any RC vehicle - Smack in the middle of the SBA flight path. Be careful drone pilots, there's a lot of stipulations regarding where, why and how high these things can be operated.

Maybe it's been used to give an estimate on roof work or air conditioner work ? It beats sending your guy up on an old latter and saves time. Plus if you see a terrorist on the roof your already set to take him out.

Good point Shakey. You wouldn't happen to know where I can rent a drone that can change light bulbs on a 35 foot ceiling, would you?

Let's all get comfortable with the inevitable rise in the use of public and private drones in our lives and around our homes:

delivering newspapers....reading gas meters....looking for errant dogs and children....surveillance over playgrounds and schools....ticketing speeders and reporting traffic on highways....monitoring flood conditions....watching outdoor sporting events . etc etc.

Repeat this mantra: drones are our friends.

That quote is sickening Freeman.

They just passed a bill in the Assembly to make law enforcement get a warrant to use drones for non-emergency surveillance. The articles did not say if private drone use would be regulated at all.

The cops are against the bill because they want drones to be treated like their helicopters and spotter planes, which can be used for surveillance any time they want.

If it passes the senate and is signed by the gov, then that will be a step in the right direction.

I was at an outdoor party last weekend and a dude had a quadcopter with a GoPro camera attached. He was flying it all around. It was pretty cool. I was impressed with how high it could go.

No big deal. Anyone can buy one. They are easy to fly. The whole gitup with camera is around $900.

You can bet that there will be a flood of new legislation coming to regulate these.

Not a drone, just a quadcopter with a GoPro. Drones are regulated these are not.

I see people out at Girsh Park (behind Home Depot) with remote control helicopters and stuff all the time. No big deal.

Goleta is home to quite a few companies that supply the drone industry - I am fortunate to work for one of them. There are a lot of bad people doing bad things in this world - drones provide intel that helps to mitigate their evil. We live in a different world now. It is just reality. Stuff that happens near Home Depot.....not a concern.

Oh please, the idea that we'll all be safer with swarms of drones (and remote quad copters are not much different than unarmed drones) stealing our last vestige of privacy, is pure paranoia.
