Scanner Reports 1-27-14
updated: Jan 27, 2014, 7:00 AM

By Roger the Scanner Guy

Well well, another beautiful Monday. One of the things I really dig about Santa Barbara is the Spirituality. I know I'm a Horrible Sinner with my actions and words compared to all the Blessed Saints living here. Why I might even be the Evil one himself for all I know. I know my family thinks I am. Good Friends have replaced my family for many years and it's in those friendships where I find Peace and Serenity. Of course that is SNOT the only place. We started praying for rain and we got a little. I think I might have to pray for a woman and hope I get a little too. Sorry, no I'm not.

THIS IS NOT A RELIGOUS RANT BUT IF THAT SORT OF THING BOTHERS YOU, MIGHT WANT TO STOP READING NOW, DON'T SAY I DID NOT WARN YOU! I started praying for rain a few days ago. When I pray for things, weird things happen in my life. One really has to watch what they pray for we don't want everyone in town building Arks and trying to get outta town at the same time because we got 40 Days, and nights of rain coming the right amount and possibly a little more would be nice though. So keep it up Santa Barbara! Lettuce Keep Praying for Rain.

I can imagine how frightened that person was on Saturday Evening when they decided to go for a little walky poo and the tide came in. They called 911, and next thing ya know a FULL RESCUE RESPONSE was coming his way. I have been in that position a few times. I never called anyone but I thought this was it; I was going to be washed out to sea and when found beached a few days later be discovered as a dead whale. I used to take a walk every year from Leadbetter to Goleta Beach and back. It was just something I did. One year my friend Brad wanted to go too. We were both young so there was no concern whether or not we would have any problems, but I never checked the tides, or read directions for that matter. I was 26 then and about as much a nerd as one could get, right down to red corduroy pants and a plastic pen holder in my flannel shirt. I had quit smoking a year earlier "This time" and was in good shape pretty much. Brad smoked Camels. Although he didn't know it until after the walk, he was in great shape. Anyway we got a late start and pretty much figured we'd be taking the bus back to town but that was ok we still got to see a lot and had a nice relaxing walk until we got a little past More Mesa when the tide started coming in. We both started jogging but still had a long way and a couple outcroppings of rocks to climb over. I fell in a couple of times and got washed into the rocks. The last outcropping it seemed we had to climb up a bit to not get wet and slip and as we climbed there were rocks falling on our heads. Someone saw us and called it in but we were ok though a little banged up here and there. We had to wade through the poop creek, but that was nothing as I swam in the Calumet River when I was a kid. I did start smoking again after that walk I just wasn't ready to quit those cigarettes. The best thing about that walk was when the girl friend picked us up and took us to the Good Earth for Soup and Hot Tea. I really miss that place; that's when it was still downtown. Another time I went too far out during low tide and got stuck on the rocks. The water got pretty deep on me and I was afraid of stepping in the wrong place. My friends were way up on the beach laughing at me because I was really freaking out and just to the point of crying when they rescued me. They gave me scrap a good long time for that and it was funny.
