January 26, 2014 - Historical Mystery House

Edhat detectives are always on the case for a good history question. SBWatcher submitted a photo of this large house inquiring its whereabouts. A note on the back of the photo stated, "Santa Barbara Roses, Mar. 30, 1901." The Dedicated Staff is positive that someone will have some information that will lead us to the location of this giant rose infested structure.

In drought news, the weather report is calling for more sun and absolutely no rain. Although it hasn't been as hot in Santa Barbara lately, it is still absolutely dry. Clouds have moved in without any moisture to bring us and the Dedicated Staff have been carefully re-directing ant trails that try and take up residence in the edhat headquarters. Our weekly rain dances haven't been working.. yet. Although we just put in an order for ancient Aztec rain sticks and are certain this will eventually bring some long awaited moisture.

In the column section we have our Dog of the Week EZ, a Great Pyrenees whose breed should be renamed "Fantastic Pyrenees." Our Cat(s) of the Week are Simba and Rocky, one of them is polydactyl which we think is pretty awesome. Our Non-Profit of the Week is the Organic Soup Kitchen who believes that no person should compromise the quality of food they feed themselves or their family. Chuck is back to talk about a supernova, Rosie tests out her sushi making skills in the kitchen, Jenny is not afraid to admit that Pinback is one of her favorite bands, and David is in awe of pelicans, dolphins and surfers.

---- Edhat Stuff ----------------------------------

POWDRELL: I happened to have been fortunate enough to witness the dolphins surfing during the women's finals of the 2014 Rincon Classic surf contest last Sunday.

Mission & State: Santa Barbara's perennial progressive, Grant House, may be leaving politics, but he won't stop believing.

HISTORY: A subscriber wants to know where this historical house from 1901 is located.

MUSIC: Jenny Schlax is back with music reviews in the New Year, this time it's Pinback at Velvet Jones.

IN THE KITCHEN: Rosie recently took up cooking and tried her hand at making sushi.

Astronomy: A supernova was recently discovered in a nearby galaxy, only about 12 million light years away.

NON-PROFIT OF THE WEEK: The Organic Soup Kitchen provides wholesome food to members of our community that need it most.

DOG OF THE WEEK: Meet EZ, a rescue dog with a huge social circle!

CAT OF THE WEEK: Meet Simba and Rocky, affectionate and unique cats.
