Child Molestation Arrest
updated: Jan 24, 2014, 8:36 AM

Source: Santa Barbara Police Department

Florentino Miranda, age 42, of Santa Barbara, was arrested for the following felonies: committing a lewd act upon a child under the age of 14 years and sexual penetration with a foreign object (digital penetration) of a victim under the age of 14 years. The crimes occurred in 2011; the victim is a female family member.

On January 21, 2014 SBPD Crimes Against Persons Detective Charlie Katsapis was assigned to investigate a report of suspected child abuse submitted to the Police Department by Santa Barbara County Child Welfare Services. Four days earlier CWS had been notified by a local mandatory reporter that a female juvenile may have been the victim of sexual abuse.

Detective Katsapis contacted the victim at her high school. Investigation revealed that in June 2011 Miranda sexually abused the victim at his residence on the 1700 block of San Andres Street. On January 22, 2014 Detective Katsapis obtained a $100,000.00 arrest warrant for Miranda for the aforementioned crimes and a search warrant for his residence. That evening, at 5:25 p.m., SBPD Sergeant Dan McGrew and Detective Brian Larson observed Miranda outside of his home and arrested him. Once Miranda was in custody his residence was searched pursuant to the search warrant. At the Police Station, when interviewed about the incident, Miranda admitted to molesting the victim. At the conclusion of the investigation Miranda was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on his arrest warrant.
