January 19, 2014 - Official Drought Emergency

Our edhat subscribers have been ramped up by the recent drought emergency declared by Governor Brown. This has stirred quite the debate about water use, water saving, and rain rain rain. CNN is reporting that 60% of California is in an extreme drought, including Santa Barbara County. A subscriber shared this image comparing January 2013 on the left to January 2014 on the right. The County of Santa Barbara officially proclaimed a local emergency on Friday. Officials are calling for an immediate voluntary 20% water reduction by residents. Lake Cachuma is currently less than 40% capacity and lower water levels will result in emergency pumping of water to the South Coast to maintain deliveries. Click here to view current and historic rainfall and reservoir conditions. With all the information out there, let's use water a little less and hope for rain.
