PRESS CONFERENCE AND FILING OF CLAIM FOR DAMAGES AGAINST THE CITY OF SANTA BARBARA, SANTA BARBARA POLICE DEPARTMENT and SANTA BARBARA POLICE CHIEF CAMERON SANCHEZ AT THE SANTA BARBARA POLICE STATION

Date: Friday, January 17, 2014

Time: 10am

Location: Santa Barbara Police Department, 215 E Figueroa St, Santa Barara, CA 93101

On or about November 20, 2013, Santa Barbara Chief of Police Camerino Sanchez, held a press conference, as part of his "Operation Falling Down" in which he displayed 68 photos ("wall of arrestees") and names; identifying these individuals as active gang members and participants of organized crime "Mexican Mafia". Three individuals who were identified as gang members by Chief Sanchez have stated they are not gang members, nor have they ever been. The Law Offices of James P. Segall-Gutierrez will be filing a claim for damages for each one of these individuals wrongly / negligently identified as gang members.

Chief Sanchez in his effort to secure the gang injunction and possible federal funding (Safe Streets Violent Crime Initiative) has fabricated facts and statistics. He has consistently acted with total disregard for individual rights and with impunity.

The claim for damages asserts that Chief Sanchez violated my clients' rights. The State causes of action are as follows: slander per se, libel per se, invasion of privacy-false light, negligent infliction of emotional distress, negligence and intentional inflictions of emotional distress. If this matter is not properly resolved, we will be filing the complaint in the Federal Central District Court of California, in Los Angeles.
