Dragon's Back/Seven Falls Photos
updated: Jan 13, 2014, 9:05 AM

By Robert Bernstein

Above the Seven Falls area in Mission Canyon is a primitive, rocky trail to Cathedral Peak. The full hike to Cathedral Peak is fairly strenuous, involving a lot of rock hopping and a very steep elevation gain of about 2,000 feet.

On Saturday I hiked with a friend just part way up that primitive, rocky trail, sometimes called the Dragon's Back.

Even going part way offered spectacular views of the rocky ridge, the surrounding canyons and out to the Channel. Also, good views of the many fun-loving young people climbing the first of the Seven Falls as well as lounging near the water slide upstream from there.

It was a busy day in the Seven Falls area!

Here are my photos!

By the way, some may recognize my friend Shannon O'Reilly in the photos. Shannon has been living in Nicaragua since the 1980s when he worked with Bikes Not Bombs. Both as compensation for the war our government was waging against the Nicaraguan people and to create affordable and sustainable transportation. His work providing bicycles to Nicaraguans continues to this day! He was just here for a short visit.
