Just FYI. There are 2 new helicopter scenic tour facilities. I have it on very good authority that 1 of them sold a Groupon and has been going pretty much non-stop. Look them up on the internet and contact them if you have a complaint. They are both really nice guys and would love the feedback. Just like the local flight schools. They want to work with the community.

It's very possible they were tourists going over some scenic and well known local locales.

Since most of us find this behavior intrusive and unsocial.....
Land of the free..... to be un-neighborly and opportunistic at others expense.

Local helicopter tours? Yet another prostitution of "the sb lifestyle." Time to move.

Wrong--Most of us think its great to live in a city where you see a Tour helicopter rather than a Ghetto Bird
Keep the helicopters and cruise ships a cumin'

Most of us think others should respect our privacy and not engage in selfish acts of disturbance and pollution for a few moments of their own distraction. These tourist, real estate and play toys of the rich are an unnecessary infringement on the use of our property and the enjoyment of our community and should be restricted.

A chopper flight is a thrill of a lifetime. I was in a three-seater round bubble-front chopper in the eighties, leaning, hanging out with my camera shooting a Native American archaeoastronomy "Medicine Wheel" site at China Rapids on the Sacramento River. We documented an otherwise unknown site for the first time. Then we went back and ground proofed it on the solstice, with the sun setting right over a marker rock. Cool beans. We asked the pilot to orbit several times, get lower, get higher. It was scary, but an absolute gas. Of course, there were no crowded neighborhoods to bother.

One day, someone was complaining about the choppers at Cottage buzzing all the time. They were cut down short when someone mentioned that they would feel differentlyif it was THEIR kid being airlifted in to emergency. All-in-all, we have relatively innocuous chopper traffic around here.

And Smilodon you apparently don't understand the complaints at all. No one I know objects to medical emergency flights just as we do not object to sirens on ambulances. Your conflation of the "thrill of a lifetime" with a life saving service is absurd. If you or a tourist business wants to use this sort of thing please do it away from the rest of us.

Hey Smilodon, was that the same kind of chopper we used to see on "Magnum, P.I." Episodes? those were cool! I always wanted to get a ride in one....preferably in Hawaii :)

I completely agree with 367. The rest of you sound like elitist snobs. What's the harm of a little helicopter flying around? Qwitcherbeefin' . You're not that important.

COMMENT 482566 agree helpful negative off topic

2014-01-04 08:38 PM

Oh, but the two or three people in the helicopter tour ARE that important? That everyone has to see them, hear them, and be at risk of them crashing down upon them?

There was a kook in an ultralight powered hang-glider thingie buzzing the harbor today. I mooned him and gave him the finger, and he came around again right over my boat, so I assume he saw. I mooned him and flipped him off again.

Seriously, if one of those flying jalopies comes down on the crowd of people they are "sightseeing" over, is that just part of life? Do I not have the right to expect others to not endanger my life for their own "thrill of a lifetime?"

Does anyone know what self-centered means any more?

@474: No it was more like a Bell 47 like they used on the M.A.S.H. tv series, lightweight with no cockpit doors. @RHS and @566, Your logic is subjectively selective: ANYBODY is allowed to use the airways. Would you restrict all tourists and real estate agents from driving on the roadways as being intrusive? Don't be absurd. This is America where we respect freedom of movement and association. What you are asking for is a fascist state, where movement is restricted and producing authorized pass papers is mandatory. Get real! And quit your bellyachin' about choppers. Learn to live in the real world, WITH other people; you don't own the world. I'm not living here for your convenience.
