2013 Year EnD Photo Recap

2013 was an eventful year and edhat subscribers were there to report it all! From short-lived fires to
missing news anchors to breath taking sunsets, we captured it all. Enjoy a trip down 2013's memory lane.
On January 3rd a fire broke out at
the old Dal Pozzo Tire building, on the corner of Chapala and Cota Streets. It was later determined that a
homeless man had started the fire.
On January 7th a mountain lion
was tranquilized near the SB Municipal Golf Course.
On January 22nd the edhat
community mourned when The Independent reported that Billy, a local dog, was shot by out of town
On February 20th SBPD was
investigating the first murder of the year on Olive Street.
Perhaps the biggest story took place on February 27th when local KEYT news reporter Paula Lopez went missing.
The beloved Condor Express caught fire on March 9th.
A panga boat used to smuggle drugs was discovered with 2,000 lbs. of marijuana located at Arroyo
Quemada Beach on March 18th.
Infamous landlord Dario Pini was arrested for burglary on March 22nd.Burglary charges were eventually
dropped and Dario Pini pled to one count of Trespass with a $75 fine.
A balcony collapsed in Isla Vista on April 6th, 4 people were injured.
An Instagram photo of students on a mail truck during Deltopia in Isla Vista on April 7th sparked discussion of destruction
On April 8th the iconic cypress at
the Douglas Preserve was uprooted by the wind.
A high speed chase occurred on April
14th after the suspect rammed a Police car on Carrillo.
The Springs Fire started on May
2nd in Camarillo and claimed approximately 24,251 acres.
A fierce stand-off took place in Paseo Nuevo on May 4th.
On May 27th the White Fire
erupted in the Los Padres National Forest. It reached more than 2,000 acres before being fully contained.
The Olive Fire jumped Highways 246 and 154 on May 28th. The fire was fully contained that same day.
The next day, on May 29th, a 4.6
magnitude earthquake centered near Isla Vista rocked the area.
June Gloom was all around us.
The Dedicated Staff counted drums on June 22nd during the annual Solstice Parade.
The new colors of the Chromatic
Gate were revealed, sparking (mostly) positive feedback from the community.
The controversy surrounding Skater's Point heated up after July 2nd when the City closed the skate park.
Soon local skaters broke into the park to resume their skating activities.
A rogue Jeep took a joyride of its own on July 4th.
A VW van spontaneously caught fire outside of Trade Joe's on July 14th.
A video from the Central Coast went viral on July 23rd.
The Santa Barbara Conference & Visitors Bureau and Film Commission announced a new logo that had people talking.
Fiesta took over the Santa Barbara the first weekend of August.
A luxury yacht named "Luna" sailed into town on August 27th
Hundreds of leopard sharks were seen feeding off More Mesa on September 10th.
Woody the dog began his journey to stardom right here on edhat with this video.
Edhat subscribers witnessed sharks feeding on a Minke whale carcass in the SB Channel.
A new boulder was added to this Garden Street intersection.
A reader shares a photo of a bobcat lounging in the shade near Coyote Road.
On November 11th, edhat and the Dedicated Staff celebrated their 10 year anniversary!

Local resident Mallory Rae Dies tragically passed away on December 11th after being struck by a drunk
It wouldn't be edhat without a sunset photo.
Edhatters had fun trying to identify these houses in a 1930s photograph.
