Healthy Vending Machines
updated: Dec 31, 2013, 3:36 PM

I'm looking for a referral of healthy vending machine options for a work place, possibly with coffee/hot water feature, in Santa Barbara area.

Check out freshvending . com

I've used their vending machines, and they are very helpful. Their vending machines can store perishable items as well, such as fruit, vegetables, and smoothies.

They have a vending machine installed with the coffee feature you want, plus the food vending.

I hope this helps!

One of our office mates became the alternative vending machine. She bought both healthy and unhealthy snacks and kept them in a drawer of her desk. When we wanted something, we could purchase it directly from her. She knew by what sold, what to restock, but also the tension in the office. (Lots of candy bars meant lots of stress.) Keeping a thermos of hot water is also a lot cheaper than installing a vending machine.

Doesn't list a vending machine vendor/operator. Maybe the above link (Canteen of Coastal CA) can help. They may be the only game in town, at least online.

Water coolers with the hot water spigot are great. My favorite is multi-grain instant cereal packets. Yeah, it's instant and processed, but a heck of a lot better than doughnuts or certain shall-go-unnamed fast food options, be it a restaurant or store. The water is so hot you can blanch/cook veggies.

I suspect unwelcome advertising has a reverse effect. Will avoid the Sportsman at all costs.
Very creative answer about the vending drawers.

What is wrong with people bringing a lunch box and bringing healthy snacks for themselves. Seems smarter and at no cost to you.

Call me an old fuddy duddy, but back in the day before rotary phones we used to call them administrative assistants.

I almost always bring my own food, but on "those days"... everyone needs emergency supplies at work sometimes! (even beyond my personal desk stash. Sometimes stale nuts or granola bars will not do.)

Really depends on the number of employees and their schedules, their ability to leave the workplace, closest stores and restaurants, things like unanticipated long days or emergency work. I think it's a good thing for employers to do.

Sportsman rules. All of their cocktails are all natural, gluten free, very low in saturated fats, and contain 100% of the RDA of omega-3 fatty acids. And they are served to you in freshly hand-washed glasses.

"Healthy" is not going come out of a vending machine. A granola bar is hardly different from a snickers. Just a lot more expensive.
