Child Molestation Arrest
updated: Dec 23, 2013, 7:04 PM

Source: Santa Barbara Police

A child molestation investigation culminated with the arrest of Jose Hurtado, age 59, of Santa Barbara, for the following felonies: continuous sexual abuse of a child, sexual abuse of a child, kidnap to commit rape, false imprisonment, and assault with the intent to commit certain felonies. These charges stem from Hurtado's actions against two female family members in 1996 and 2006-2007 while residing in Santa Barbara. A third female family member was contacted who revealed that she had been molested by Hurtado in Mexico in 1975.

On November 22, 2013 officers from the Santa Barbara Police Department responded to a residence on Santa Barbara's Eastside to investigate a report of child molestation. There they contacted a teenage girl who advised that she had been the victim of repeated sexual abuse by Hurtado beginning when she was 10-years old. The abuse took place during 2006 and 2007 at a time when the victim and her parents lived with Hurtado at his residence on the 700 block of Cook Avenue.

Two days later officers contacted two additional victims. One of them recounted that she had been the victim of repeated sexual abuse by Hurtado beginning when she was 14-years old. The abuse took place during 1996 when the victim and her mother and sister lived with Hurtado at the Cook Avenue residence. The other victim recounted that she was repeatedly sexually abused by Hurtado when she was 14-years old and resided with Hurtado in Mexico City, Mexico, in 1975.

On December 18, 2013 SBPD Crimes Against Persons Detective Brian Larson obtained a $1,000,000.00 arrest warrant for Hurtado for the aforementioned crimes and subsequently arrested him at his residence at 10:20 a.m. When interviewed Hurtado admitted to committing several acts of sexual abuse against the victims. Hurtado was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail.
