Does anyone know if the rare Gray Hawk is still around Carpinteria area? And if 'yes' where was it seen the last time? Santa is bringing me a nice scope ...

I have not personally seen it yet, but there was a sighting on Dec. 14th on Santa Claus Lane near Padaro Lane intersection

Saw it on a street light across from Ledbetter beach a couple of days ago. Lots of fat squirrels to snack on!

Yes it is. I was with a group of 6 birders to see it on Friday.

It is still in the Carp. area along Santa Claus Ln. and has not been seen anywhere near Ledbetter beach.

I saw it Saturday from Calle Real, on a tall bush on the inland side of the freeway, not too far from Gallop & Stribling Nursery. I've seen it a couple of times in that area -- about even with Santa Claus Lane, but on the mountain side of the freeway. There were a couple of Red-tail Hawks in the same area, so look carefully to make sure it's the Gray.

Can a hawk take out a drone?

680, you probably saw a Cooper's Hawk. They are gray on the back like the Gray Hawk, but they have reddish breast feathers instead of gray and white ones. Cooper's have a black capped head and Gray Hawks have a gray head.

A couple of days ago, I watched a gray hawk on a utility pole below our house in the middle of rhe Riviera. It droped out of sight, maybe on quest of dinner. We have red tailed hawkes often but I had never seen a gray before.

My friend got some beautiful pictures of it yesterday (Mon. 12/23) on the mountain side of the 101 just south of the Santa Claus Exit. 9720 you cracked me up!

Saw it on December 21st flying near el carro Park in Carpinteria. It caught my attention because it was light grey so different than all the other Hawks.
