Investigators from the Santa Barbara Police Department are investigating a stabbing that occurred on the 00 block of W. Figueroa Street.

On December 17, 2013 at 11:32 p.m., officers from the Santa Barbara Police Department responded to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Emergency Room to investigate an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival they contacted the victim in the incident, a 20-year old male Isla Vista resident who was suffering from a non-life threatening stab wound to his torso. He was treated and released from the hospital.

Investigation indicates that at approximately 10:40 p.m. that evening the victim was walking on the sidewalk on the 00 block of W. Figueroa Street when he was attacked by multiple assailants. The victim exchanged punches and grappled with the suspects until they fled the scene. After the suspects left the victim realized that he had been stabbed during the altercation. He walked to a relative's nearby residence and was then taken to the hospital.

Investigators have not yet determined if this incident is gang related. This investigation is still ongoing and additional details are being withheld.
