Local Brews
updated: Dec 13, 2013, 1:57 PM

I'd like to give an assortment of locally-brewed beers to a friend. Is there anywhere in town where I can buy bottles of local brews? Ideally I'd be able to buy a bottle of this, a bottle of that so I don't have to buy a six-pack of each (normally I wouldn't mind but I can't drink right now). I'm wondering if Lazy Acres, Whole Foods, or Bevmo might sell local beer? Or do the tasting rooms sell them in bottles (not just growlers)?

I had the same idea for a friend of mine, but wasn't able to find anything truly local and/or a fun sampler. So I decided I'm going to go down to the funk zone and buy a couple tastings for him and his wife.

You might want to check with Figueroa mountain. World Market has a good assortment of single bottles, not sure how many are local though. Fun idea, good luck.

BevMo and Whole Foods have all the locals: Telegraph, Island, Figueroa Mountain, Firestone Walker, Surf (Ventura) and Tap It (SLO).

Try the beer cave at Mesa Fuel Depot. It has a great selection of craft including some local stuff.

I think there's a place in Ojai that's supposed to be pretty awesome, I think it's called Ojai beverage company? Or something along those lines? Either way, I've never been but have heard their selection of stuff is pretty huge, including local and small micro breweries on the west coast.

There's a beer called 805. It's got to be local.

Used to be a liquor store in Carp that had the widest selection of beer damn near anywhere. It was famous for that. It got driven out by lease rearrangements in the Albertson's shopping center. Too bad - another local business gone.

I'm a local homebrewer/beer geek. Whole Foods is a good call for availability of many local ones, brands mentioned by 026.

A growler is great if consumed soon after purchase otherwise you may be gifting flat beer :-( Costco has some good deals. I've found the best deal on Fig Mtn Brewing at my local gas station (2 - 22oz for $10)

San Roque Market and Liquor 3104 State (near Giovanni's) has an awe-inspiring selection of brews, including local brews, with refrigerated walls and walls of many hundreds of different ones... beer heaven!

OP here - thank you for the help everyone! I checked out Whole Foods and BevMo since they are near work. WF has an excellent selection but most of them were chilled already (which wouldn't work for my purposes). I found Figueroa Mountain and Telegraph at BevMo. I'll check out some of the other ideas.

(P.S. I skipped 805 since I'm trying to stick to SB county beer :) but I thought about it).
