Was that a C-130 that just flew low over my home in Noleta? Big, gray cargo plane with a loud sound!

I was just about to ask the same thing...two, or the same one twice, just took off from SBA and flew over me at the Costco parking lot.

Yup. Must be making touch and goes because it's left the airport at least 4 times now.

Wow - I was the poster and only know about C-130's by way of Hurrincane Iniki. They helped us with cold beer and party favors - kidding! Food, water and important supplies is what they really delivered. I still LOVE my generator.

They were most likely practicing instrument approaches. I see them and other military aircraft at SBA often. http://www.edhat.com/site/tidbit.cfm?nid=67046

HAARP is real , the other day during the rain I wore my foil cap, and there was a big flash, and now I no longer need batteries for any thing , I get free cable and just close my eyes to watch TV, and best of all I now have a real magnetic personality !! See why else would you read more !! HAARP it's not just for soft music any more...

I was wondering about the increase in aircraft lately--seems to be picking up--planes and copters.

Just before noon I saw it from the freeway, flying low and west, banked a hard right turn toward the mountains over sandpiper and then east. Back at Fairview flew straight across the freeway out over the ocean, then looped back around to the east and came in to the landing pattern. Man that thing was big and low.

Foolish Shakey and others, they are getting ready to test and deploy a Brown Note based test weapon over Santa Barbara.

You can usually count on the loons coming out if there's a post on police, clouds, medicine, luminarias, or pangas. Now it's just plain planes. Too bad the nanny doesn't have a loon mallet.

Brown Note, well that explains all the skid marks on the runway !! I think I've herd of that, is it the one were you write someones name in a note book and say how they died and it comes true ? Oh never mind , my son just told me that was " Death Note " that was cool too !!

Anyone who doesn't automatically believe the official party line (the police are all good, the government never lies etc.) reported on the teevee nooz is a "loon"? If that's you're belief, you are the personification of stupid.

Propaganda - Yeah, why believe the real answer when you can spin fantasies and purple unicorns flitting through the ether? It's much more fun, and it shows your superior intellect.

628 - I wonder what the satellite exposure times are. You could get the plane's speed from the image smear.

628 here, I discovered what I believe is a C-130 while mapping a route to Jalama beach after reading Aquaholic's recent post. I haven't been able to find this particular shot in the google community who track 'planes in flight' probably because this satellite image is relatively new. It's my understanding that the satellite is equipped with an array of cameras to take the single photo and not intended for moving objects, hence the second blue image. You can also see this effect on cars moving along the freeway. Not so much on the 101 but check out the 15 headed out to Las Vegas.

Those lunkers fly over upper Rincon creek regularly then over the crest of S. Ynez and turn toward Gorman. Usually 2 of em, training from NAS Point Mugu. Looks like fun swooping through a canyon in one of those.

Yes it was. It was in a descending turn referred to by pilots as the downwind leg of his approach to the airport.

628-please explain the "34.587499°, -120.411857°" reference. I can see that some others recognize the significance and have made use of it but I am at a loss. Thanks.

Neighbor,
Install Goodle Earth then type the coordinates (without the quotes) into the search bar, and the field of view will shift to the indicated spot SE of Lompoc. Instead of the degree sign and minus value fpr the longitude, you can also type it in as 34.587499N 120.411857W. Handy.

(The numbers are latitude and longitude converted to decimal degrees.)

There are two C-130 units at Pt. Mugu. The larger unit is the Air National Guard units, their C-130s are camouflaged. One of their missions locally is to drop fire retardant.

There is also a Navy Reserve C-130 unit at Pt. Mugu, their C-130s are gray.

Both units have aircrews who need to maintain their proficiency, that's probably why they used our airport (as well as other airports) to practice their landings.

There are no C-130s assigned to Vandenberg AFB.

Neighbor,
As 869 said... or google (other search engines won't work) 34.587499°, -120.411857°. At the top of the list will be a map. Clicking on it will bring up a larger map. Click on the "Earth" button that's in the lower left corner. That will bring up the satellite image without having to download Google Earth. Alternatively, type the coordinates into your address bar and it will bring up the same map if you use Google as your default search engine.

Thank you 628 & 869. Very helpful. I have Google Earth and I'll try it, and a Google search in my browser. What I think I'm missing now is "How do I query the gps location of something I see in the image?" That is how do I capture the gps coordinates of a location in Google Earth, for example.
