Goleta DUI Checkpoint Friday
updated: Dec 12, 2013, 9:19 AM

Source: Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office

This holiday season, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputies will be out in force cracking down on impaired drivers with special DUI / Driver's License Checkpoints.

The Goleta Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI / Driver's License checkpoint on Friday December 13th, at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.

Officers will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail time, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, court probation and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

Officers will also be checking drivers for proper licensing. A major component of these checkpoints is the deterrent effect it has on those who might drive drunk or drug impaired and brings about more awareness, encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers.

The Sheriff's Office is giving fair warning to all partygoers. "In addition to DUI / Driver's License Checkpoints, you will also see us making lots of vehicle stops during this highly visible holiday enforcement period," said Sgt. Kevin Huddle of the Goleta Traffic Unit. "If we suspect anyone is driving while under the influence, officers will show zero tolerance for drunk or drugged driving."

Remember, it is never safe to drink and drive: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The City of Goleta contracts with the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office for police services.
