Wintry Blast Hits Goleta
updated: Dec 11, 2013, 11:07 AM

By Steve McGovern

Goleta has not been spared by the Climate-change-driven blast of frigid arctic air covering most of North America. Bench-sitting conditions were treacherous, yesterday, at Lake Los Carneros. Frosty conditions were blamed in the separate deaths of three young Southern Californians who sat on benches at the park, stuck to the frozen surfaces, and starved to death trying to figure out what to do next. Another was critically injured when he slid off the end of the bench and fell to the nearly frozen ground below. out.

Most local schools and businesses were closed yesterday due to the dangerous conditions caused by lake effect frost. Goleta resident are reminded, during this time of below normal temperatures, to remain in their homes unless it is absolutely necessary to go out. Temperatures today are expected to reach only the mid-60's.
