14 More Shoplifting Days till Christmas! Happy Hump Day! There's nothing like a nice warm outhouse first thing in the mornin! The other day I went in there and it must have been 10 degrees. Nearly froze up. Today there's a heater in there. That's what it feels like not having a regular gas heater in your house. The electric works good but I always shut it off before crashing out. Last year I bought moving blankets and secured em over the windows. That cut down a lot of the cold coming thru the windows but I went to take em down to do some cleaning and they fell apart. Don't have nothing on those windows now. It's kinda cold. Love those fleece blankets though, those keep me nice and warm Pooh Bear sleeps in a fabric house and I put one over the doorway for him; he still gets cold though. Anyone out there got any tips on how to keep warm in this weather wouldn't mind hearing them. I'm sure a few others here on Edhat would like them too, so fire away!

I sure would hate to be out there on the streets in this weather; seems like every year a few people die after falling asleep on the cold cement somehow. That cold travels through their system and shuts everything down through the night. Almost seems like a painless way to go. I slept out there in all kinds of weather when I was young; didn't bother me as much then. Sometime in my 30's I started having problems breathing the night air. Couldn't work nights as much it was a real bummer. A lot of homeless I notice find a piece of cardboard to lie on between them and the cold hard ground seems to help a lot. I used to hate hearing those stories from the Old Folks: "You youngins have it easy nowadays when I was your age I had to walk 135 miles to school every day with cardboard in my shoes to cover the holes, and a hot potato my Mama warmed up in the wood burning stove then I'd eat that potato for Lunch!"

One of the first jobs I ever had was from 6am to 10am washing dishes at a truck stop. It was Winter I didn't have a car, I walked 7 miles to work every morning from one side of Fort Wayne to the other. It gets really cold in Fort Wayne in the winter! I was young Thank the Good Dog! Had I known then what the Little Woman was up to when I was walking to work in that snow and washing them dishes, I woulda kicked her butt out in the snow! I'm glad I worked though, I met some good people at the Old Fort Myers Truck Stop, and the coffee was always good and hot in those Old School thick coffee cups I think Little Audry served her coffee in those cups too.

I think since the Stray Animal Code Reds are not considered to be a real emergency I'm going to post Stray animal notices in the Daily Traffic thread since it usually has everything to do with traffic anyway. Many of the calls concern animals that are out on the road so that includes traffic. I post those stray animal notices in hope that maybe someone will be looking for the little guy or gal and find them. Not many stray dog calls near the highway end happy, it sounds at least for Tuesday there was a call for a loose stray husky near the highway and Animal Control found it.

Along with the cold weather comes those Warming Fires. I heard a couple on Tuesday not everyone puts em out then there's Fire so if you see smoke might want to report it since some campers out there don't seem to care about putting out their fires. I smelled some on Monday night in our area as far as I know there's been no problems so maybe I have considerate campers around here, I wouldn't call them in unless I thought there was a need to like it was out of control or something.
