What is Wegman's?

Wegman's is an East Coast grocery store chain started in Rochester, NY. I don't think there are any stores outside of the North East.

Not in any foreseeable future. All current and planned stores are located in six states in the northeast.

I JUST HAD A HEART ATTACK!!!! I was so excited to think this was true. What a cruel cruel trick. Humph (arms crossed and sad face)

I guess you'd have to be from the east coast and not here to appreciate this store.

You can order from them online, however!

995, me too!! I squealed out loud! Made my day, and my week...for about 30 seconds. Humph, indeed.

We are stuck with Whole Foods and Gelson's (but not for much longer). Trader Joes still runs the show sans the parking situation.

What about Fresh Market? On Milpas!

Totally disagree. Fresh Market is the best grocery store I have ever been in. Much better than any other options in the area

I don't know where 029's comment came from--I shopped for the first time at Fresh and Easy the day before Thanksgiving and was amazed to find a clean store, broad aisles, excellent selection and no crowds.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, Wegman's, memories of strolling the aisles with my buddies in the late 60's, stoned out of our minds, looking for items, lots of items, to cure our munchies!!! It was a brand new store and they had everything.

Fresh Market started in North Carolina, and has been moving into more locations in California, according to one of the principals I met a week ago front of the store. He said they are opening on the 11th of December. This is on Montecito St. (near Milpas), that used to be Scolari's.

Lmao, and grinning or sneering at the dastardly OP.
"Good" post, OP. Misleading, but effective. I'm a local, but have a friend born & bred in upper NY state.

I'm with 2 Abbys. (I have several old videos and books)

Wegman's Weimeraners bake bread:

Find "wegman weimaraner abc's" and "cooking" for your kids -- and yourselves! Alphabet Soup is irresistible:

013 is probably referring to a rumor previously posted that Gelsons may be closing or some such.
I seriously hope not. I like Gelsons very much. Their attention to the only thing that matters in food selection is quality quality quality. When you want the very best meat, fish, vegetables…etc. Gelson's delivers.
If you want "free range" "organic" "sustainable" "fair trade" or any of the new age buzzwords associated with your purchase, then maybe go to one of the other places.
As a foodie, I would miss having Gelson's very much.
So far I have asked many at Gelsons about this rumor and have not heard that it is true. I have heard through business journals that they are experiencing some problems business-wise so there could be something to the rumor.

Dang, at first I mis-read it and thought it said WELLMAN's OPENING and I was excited that the fabulous Independent photographer Paul Wellman was having an exhibition of his photographs. Well, someday!

I'd like a New Frontiers Natural Marketplace. Love that store! Better prices than Whole Foods and Gelsons, and more locally sourced produce.

OP, your question implies that you have an expectation that Wegman's will open in SB sometime in the near future ... what is that expectation based on?

why not lobby some in-state groceries like Andronico's, Nugget, Draeger's, Molly Stone?
