Auto Burglaries
updated: Dec 09, 2013, 8:35 AM

By Edhat Subscriber

Our passenger window was smashed on Fri eve while parked on Santa Barbara St just above Ortega. They took what looked sorta like a purse but wasn't (biggest loss: our entire 2013 record of business travel mileage). CSI came but could find no fingerprints.

Then Sat morn at our church (Calle Real and Kellogg) the same thing happened to three cars around 10:30 in broad daylight--but none of us saw the perps.

Anybody else in this rash of auto burglaries? Anyone else want to be more careful about what's visible when you park?

Auto burglaries or simply malicious mischief?

Smash and grabs are pretty common around this time of year. Don't leave valuables in plain sight and put all your shopping bags in the trunk. It's that time...

Breaking a window and stealing something that looks like a purse is malicious mischief? I want you as my lawyer when I rob a bank.

Yes. Holiday season means all of us have to be more vigilant. Not just vigilant about our vehicles, but also with locking up our houses. It's a sad fact that some people like to steal from others so they can then give nice gifts to their relatives at Christmas. Or some steal to ramp up their alcohol and drug abuse. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Today's News-Press has an article by the Associated Press (reported by Don Thompson) = "Study: Prison changes boost property crime" (in California).
"Auto theft increased significantly in California and other property crimes also rose after the state began an initiative resulting in more inmates being released early ...."
"While violent crimes did not increase after realignment ... property crime increased." ....
"Property crime in general rose nearly 8 percent in California, even as the property crime rate dropped nationally. ...."
[Much more info in the News-Press article.]

MACSCIDOR.... I wouldn't take what is printed in the NP as unbiased reporting. If it suits their agenda you can bet the story is slanted to mean what they want it to mean.

But that's just my opinion and, like noses, everyone's got one and they all smell.

843: One important operative word that you missed in the title is STUDY. " ... the *study* released .... by the Public Policy Institute of California => per researchers. (FYI: The News-Press PRINTS reports by other agencies, like the Associated Press -- and some articles are done "in-house." I clearly stated that this was an Associated Press release of a report from a study.)

Two vehicles in my driveway received smashed passenger
side windows last night. I live on the lower riviera off
Pedregosa street. All they took were my empty reuseable
grocery bags!
