I was houseless in the 80's and not many of us bums ventured past Mission street unless we were working. The early 80's I wasn't involved in the protests. I was renting and working steady then I became houseless acouple times for a day or two then I'd rent a room or sleep in a shop, or a friend would rent me a sofa. I wasn't a saint I got busted a few times drinking, but I always tired to pay my way or pay it back..There is one person I know of been here since 1980 still works and doesn't ask for handouts but he don't turn down whats offered either he's an old man now. Anyway it wasn't this bad in the early 80's I know that.
