I grew up in SB when it was still one of best kept secrets in America (1950 -1978). I drove all over the country expecting to find dozens of places like it or better. My bride and I resided in Montecito until Dad sold the family homestead in 1978.

Los Banos Pool, the harbor area and Pershing Park were part of some fond memories.

I have a couple of 1950s photos of Pershing Park that were taken of me on a mighty horse named "Grasshopper" at Pershing Park. I was about seven at the time and the year was around 1953.

A couple of things I found interesting were the very wide boards on the stalls (probably redwood), and the background past the riding ring that included palm trees, a large eucalyptus, sailboat masts and a crows nest/trolling booms of a purse seiners.

I searched the Internet at length and found no photo-reference to the old Pershing Park showgrounds at all. So if anyone else in the community has more photos or information, please share!
