Eagles
updated: Dec 05, 2013, 3:23 PM

By John Wiley

There was a gathering of Eagles at SBA recently, and I wanted to share this pic and a few words about this exciting program. One of the several excellent local aviation groups is the SB Aero Club founded here about a century ago. In more recent years SBAC became an affilate of the EAA and added a second name (EAA 527) for the group.

I wanted to share that a big contribution SBAC/EAA527 makes to local aviation is introducing kids of all ages to the exciting world of aviation with their free Eagles flights. The program started some years ago with gatherings like this one at SBA last month, with SBAC pilots flying kids. These pilots along with flight schools and other aviation businesses and our great SBA ATC & Admin donate their time and flying expenses, and the kids are often inspired to great things.

SBAC also offers free introductory Eagle Flights to adults now, though so far those have been the quiet contributions of individual pilot volunteers. I find this work of SBAC members so exciting, I wanted the Edhat community to know about it. If you're interested, I hope you'll get involved because it's really fun.

The next meeting of SBAC/EAA527 is the annual Holiday Dinner that's nearly sold out. But the other public meetings are free, and all are welcome. Click the SBAC link above for details, and maybe your dreams will take flight.
