Hope and State
updated: Dec 05, 2013, 2:00 PM

Does any one know what happened at the corner of Hope Ave. and State St. around 5 or 6 p.m.? There were several Police cars, several Policemen and at least one fire engine. They had a strong turn out. Several of us were on Hope trying to cross State to get home. One of the officers directed us down State St., and we doubled back off of LaCumbre on the side street that goes along the cemetery, and in that short amount of time everything and every body was gone, with nary a clue as to what had transpired.

A friend of mine that works at the Cemetery was warned by authorities to watch out for a Mountain Lion in the area, maybe something to do with that?

Don't think there would be any reason to dispatch a fire engine for a Mountain Lion sighting unless it had mauled someone.

Looked like a pedestrian or cyclist? was hit by a car. I saw one person laying in the middle of the road near the Wells Fargo driveway. There was one car parked in the middle of the road.

I missed that call but heard streets were blocked off in the area sounded like an accident investigation..

I cannot imagine why they were obviously invested with all the responders from all over were out there with lights flashing and an officer who got very upset with the car ahead of me that wanted to cross State (on which traffic flow did not seem to be affected at all), had the Officer advance to their car until he was standing nearly over the hood and aggressively point the traffic down State towards La Cumbre, and in the short time it took to run thru there everything and everyone disappeared! I live on Lincolnwood and we have been warned that they are seeing mountain lions and coyotes running around up here and they are getting more and more brazen by coming out in the daylight.

I was around there right after it happened. I was turning right onto hope from state and there was a vehicle in the road with flashing lights, and a woman on the ground right in front of a car pointed toward state but partially turned like it was coming out of the BofA driveway. I was stopped in the Wells Fargo parking lot waiting for someone and saw the fire engine come, and eventually the person from the road was put on a stretcher. When I left the parking lot nobody appeared to be rushing and as far as I could tell the person was sitting up on the stretcher. A cop had come and was blocking the access to hope while I went the other way. There were vehicles and people standing in the street on hope so it makes sense to have blocked it off.

I still don't know what happened but it looked to me like vehicle vs ped. There was no bike and it looked like the person was wearing healed shoes.

634 - Yes, there are several pockets in this area that are zoned in ways that allow barnyard animals - including (very tasty) goats. Some people keep them to produce milk.
