Looking for Barber
updated: Dec 03, 2013, 8:55 PM

Can anyone recommend a good barber for men's haircuts? I've been going to Supercuts, but i'm yearning for a more basic, old-school experience for a basic cut. Who's the best barber in town for such things?

My wife uses a "Flow-Bee" on me. Works great! Google it.

070, thanks, but i'm looking for an actual haircut, like different lenghts for different areas of my head, not just a uniform one-length cut like the Flowbee gives. But thanks for the input!

My husband goes to The Palms Barber just down the street from Petrini's between State and De La Vina. Now, my little guy goes there too.

Two of my male friends get great haircuts----super inexpensive---at that hair salon in Magnolia Shopping Center.

Everyone's asleep now, or I'd ask them the name of it. It's right next to the thrift shop, at north end of the shopping center, to the left of thrift shop.

It's some kind of school of beauty salon, where the supervisor walks around and instructs the students on how to give you the best haircut. My friends always get great cuts.

Can't help I'm out of the area. But..unlike many posts using the word "reasonable" which means cheap, the OP wants a good haircut. Getting a good one means being willing to part with 20 bucks or more and getting the same barber next time. Get a haircut at barber school? Get a root canal at dental school and have a high school shop class repair your Mercedes. Old school..you face the mirror, they cut with scissors, they trim it with a straight razor, they do not own a blow dryer.

You should go down to the first block of West Figueroa to Willie's Barber Shop. Willie or his son Gilbert do great work and it's an old school place. On the pricey side but reasonable for Santa Barbara..

Go to The Palms near the original Petrini's. Call 805-252-4940 and ask for Jesse Estrada. He's born and raised here in SB and is a great barber and a good man. My dad was a barber for 60 yrs, working his last 5 yrs alongside Jesse at Palms and has only good things to say about him as a barber and as a good guy.

Another vote for Johhny at Amigo's, 2709 De La Vina St.

He has cut three generations of mens hair in my husband's family, and he always does a great job and is an interesting guy to chat with too!

Jesse Estrada at Palms Barbershop on the corner of De La Vina & Calle Laureles is the best in the business. They've been there since 1957 or so and it's a great straight-ahead barbershop.

A few years ago I got my son-in-law a membership to M.O.B.S. (Men Only Barber Shop?) on 100 block E. Victoria. Members have their own shaving mugs. It's the one that always is really decorated for Christmas. He really likes going there.

Members Only Barbershop, MOBS for short. Old school, single chair downtown on Victoria. Franco does straight razor shaves too and teaches classes to other barbers. He the one who decorate his little shop incredibly well every Christmas - photos of it usually end up here on edhat.

Richie's in Montecito. $35. Traditional barber shop. Great service. Great cuts. Great vibe. Been going on/off for 2 years. Very clean cut, great attention to detail. You can get additional services like a shave, etc... You'll need an appointment as it seems the word has gotten out. I used to be able to walk-in two years ago when they first opened - can't do that anymore so that must mean something.

I used to go to a Salon by appointment and listened to talk about the latest fashion. Then I changed to a barber shop where I walk in anytime and we talk about cars and basketball. It saves a lot of money and I am happy.

Look nowhere else. Just go see Diego at The Goodland Barbershop in Goleta. He gets down with the fades and always finishes with a hot lather straight razor shave. 3 big flat screen TV's and 4 chairs. Not expensive either, less than $20.

Another vote for Danny's Styling - you can make an appointment, but since Frank Sinatra is always playing on the stereo, why not just go there and 'hang out' for a while waiting your turn. The clientele usually have good SB stories!

most of the cheaper barbers around here can do short buzz cuts well and that's it. I think you need to pay more to get a decent cut in any other style in this area.

Montecito Barbers. Don't let the fact it's in Montecito fool you; it is not expensive, and is the best deal for a great cut and shave in the area. My husband won't go anywhere else.

I've had consistently good haircuts from:

- Classic Barbers (Milpas)
- Goleta Barbers (Hollister in Old Town Goleta)
