Nativity Scene Items
updated: Dec 02, 2013, 11:45 AM

I am looking to add to my Nativity Scene this year. Does anyone know where I can find reasonably priced individual items to add? I checked Michael's and they only had a complete set.

Thrift stores, I've gotten several single pieces I needed there.

Take a drive to Cambria Pines Lodge and visit their nursery gift shop. Absolutely incredible. Also stop at the "antique" shops in the village. Lin's has beautiful Christmas accessories.

Ebay has thousands of individual nativity items.

I've gotten individual pieces at the dollar type stores in the past.

I saw a set of cute dinosaurs at the 99-cent store at San Andres & Micheltorena. Placement of a stegosaurus or pterodactyl amongst the sheep, donkeys, etc., ought to placate the creationists.

Maybe a little FSM figure to go with the dinosaurs?

FSM -- that's my deity! Pastafarianism.

Cambria Pines Lodge gift shop to buy yard decorations? HA! I love that place, don't get me wrong, but that would be the least practical advice I've ever heard. Ebay is terrific for this. Also thrift stores and don't forget Art From Scrap! K-Mart in Goleta is good too.

The gift shop at Cambria Nursery (owned by, but not located at the Lodge) specializes in nativity sets and the little Christmas villages that people love to put up in the house. They have dozens of different pieces every year. Great for model railroad layouts. But they are whole sets, not individual pieces.

This season at the Lodge, they're again holding the Christmas Market , modeled after the German ones-with bazillions of led lights everywhere. Very impressive.

I have a hand-carved carved olive wood Nativity set from Bethlehem. Over the last 40 years I have added carved wooden animals from Africa, which I have picked up here and there. My children and grandchildren have loved placing them all to their satisfaction. A dinosaur would be nice....
Yes, the night light show at Cambria Pines Lodge is not to be missed. I go early to get a parking place and then walk through the grounds in wonderment. All of east village has gotten in the spirit, with lighting centered about the Cambria Historical Museum at Burton and Center Streets, just off Main. You should see the official town Christmas Tree there, a Port Orford Cedar almost 110 years old, all bedecked in LED!
