While passing McConnell's Thursday I noticed that the ice cream store is closed.

What time? It's not open 24hrs btw. Was open and bumping friday night when we were there. Churros con Leche ice cream = the bomb!

Maybe people woke up to the fact that you can get good ice cream elsewhere for way under $3+ per scoop. If so, it's certainly taken long enough.

288: McConnells is closed for good, or closed re: hours???? Confirmed how????

I don't understand the posters who make a remark and add "confirmed". I agree with 303P, confirmed how, on this McConnells issue? Or, trying to sound important?

I think the "confirmed" statement has become a bit of a joke.

Almost 24 hrs. and we still don't know. Maybe some here has enough telephone skills to call them when they are supposed to be open and find out for sure. I would, but I really don't care as I try to avoid lower State.

Cool, let's bash a locally-owned State Street business who puts out a superior and premium product. We love you McConnell's, don't let the bashers get you down.

We love you, but you've priced yourself right out of the market. I think it's called greed.

Restaurant Guy says rumor is false and they are open for business as usual.

Markets exist when a willing seller and a willing buyer agree on value exchanged. There is no such thing as pricing oneself out of the market. Just like every house in Santa Barbara is affordable if someone buys it.

As Thomas Sowell far more eloquently said: Why is it called greed when someone wants to keep what they have earned. And not greed, when someone else wants to take that same money for themselves.

Greed is a silly term to throw around. No State Street landlord is greedy; only the prospective tenants who want a special deal for themselves at someone else's expense.

359P - wow, talk about naive. Everybody is good, fair and ethical and all factors are equal. Everybody obeys the laws and is fair and honest. Yep.

As Greenspan stated, he never believed for one minute that the financial folks would do anything risky that would jeopardize themselves and the rest of the country. And he was wrong.

“"Those of us who have looked to the self-interest of lending institutions to protect shareholders’ equity, myself included, are in a state of shocked disbelief,” he told the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform."

McConnells hasn't been on State street for 15 or more years. They are at the corner de la Vina and Mission.

Apparently you have been downtown lately 426 or read edhat for that matter. State Street location opened a couple of months ago.

Even the real estate bubble was willing buyer meeting willing seller. And derivatives - no one forces anyone to buy those either.

Pays to read more about why this happened, its real origins in the massive Congressional social engineering that led to the greed of the buyers outstripping their own common sense too.

Everyone was in this last bubble for their own reasons; there were no victims here. Bubble memories are very short, by the way.

8487... let's hope you are never sold a bill of goods by a dishonest salesman/broker/banker who had more to gain from lying than tell you what you were really getting yourself into.

BTW... you and every US taxpayer is currently the owner of $3.4 Trillion worth of toxic derivatives bought to shore up the banking system also duped by the lucrative (to the sellers and creators) schemes.

You got duped letting the government insure the these pieces of paper. And officially demanding home ownership for everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Vote better next time. Because you sure did not learn last time or the time before that.

I've been boycotting McDonnell's ever since I encountered rudeness from the manager and the stiff bill for an ice-cream that was too heavy on the cream. Stomach ache both times. Thrifty ice-cream all the way.

I miss Ben and Jerry's! Much better ice cream!

Does anyone know why they closed?
