At approximately 5 p.m. yesterday, November 1, Sheriff's South County Narcotics Unit detectives
arrested an Isla Vista resident on drug related charges. 23-year-old Jacob Loureiro was taken into
custody following a search warrant served at his apartment located in the 6500 block of Seville Road.
Louriero had been under investigation by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office Narcotics
Enforcement Unit for the past several weeks.
During a search of the apartment, detectives located evidence establishing that Loureiro was selling
several types of prescription medications. Although Loureiro was prescribed some of the medications,
the investigation revealed that he was selling the pills to residents in the Isla Vista community. Evidence
was also located, indicating that Loureiro was selling marijuana. In addition to the prescription
narcotics and marijuana located, Sheriff's Narcotics detectives found that Loureiro was in possession of
a shotgun, a handgun, a law enforcement style collapsible baton, and brass knuckles.
Although the shotgun and handgun were lawfully possessed, a request will be made with the District
Attorney's Office to review this case for additional weapons violations based on Loureiro being in
possession of a combination of narcotics for sale and firearms.
Loureiro was arrested and booked for violations of possession for sales of a controlled substance,
possession for sales of marijuana, and possession of a deadly weapon. Loureiro's bail was set at
Earlier this week, two individuals were arrested in Isla Vista when one of them sold an undercover officer
1,000 Xanax pills. The subjects were found to be in possession of a total of 2,300 Xanax pills.
Students in college communities will sometimes rely on prescription drugs as study aids and will
frequently obtain the pills without a prescription. The pills are usually obtained from friends or
occasionally via the internet.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the community that prescription
medications can be addictive and dangerous if mixed with other narcotics or alcohol.
